Thanks for the replies. I have been lurking here for a while trying to learn a little about bonds and fixed income investing. I know even less about the bankruptcy laws than I do about how to value bonds.

At this point my fixed income portfolio consists of government bonds and FDIC insured CDs. It's not that I am that risk adverse, quite the contrary. I just do not know how to assess risk in corporate bonds and don't have a lot of faith in the rating agencies at this point.

Back under my rock.
