We've been in Europe a few times over the last couple of years. One thing that really stood out when using CC's in a restaurant was that they would bring the card reader to the table and process the payment right there. I don't know whether that completely stops the risk of having the card compromised but we never had a glitch. The couple of times it's happened here in the US was where the card disappeared behind the curtain and took fifteen minutes to come back. Way past time to switch to the European system.
