planning on devining different areas of the yard this year

I was thinking about buying some shrimp and do some deveining.

On a side note, inferiority is in the eye of the beholder, of course; but each year there is a contest, the Bulwer-Lytton Fiction contest named for the Victorian novelist who first penned the immortal cliche "It was a dark and stormy night." The contest rules are the soul of brevity: each entry must be the opening sentence to the worst novel never written. Exactly one sentence long. Original. Unpublished. And awful.

My favorite was the 2004 winner by Dave Zobel:

"She resolved to end the love affair with Ramon tonight....summarily, like Martha Stewart ripping the sand vein out of a shrimp's tail....thought the term 'love affair' now struck her as a ridiculous euphemism....not unlike 'sand vein,' which is after all an intestine, not a vein....and that tarry substance inside certainly isn't sand....and that brought her back to Ramon."

Best read aloud.

What we had success with last year: san marzano tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, bell peppers, okra, butternut squash, bush beans, lettuce, and beets. Only changes are a climbing trellis for the squash to keep it from taking over the whole garden. Also adding banana peppers and marigolds (to see if they help with pests). Currently have garlic and onions in the ground just waiting to harvest.
