What state do you live in?

The crossvine on our brick mailbox is in full bloom... I planted it specifically to attract hummingbirds. Unfortunately, it blooms only once a year; I thought it flowered throughout the summer.

Typically the hummingbirds arrive here (north central TX) about a week after the crossvine has finished flowering.

Wondering if I should assemble and fill our hummingbird feeders.

We do have a wren nest on the back porch; the little boogers got past me again and managed to build and lay eggs within a day or two, so now we can't use the livingroom-to-patio door for another month. Usually I remove the nests once or twice, they get discouraged, and build elsewhere. If they sneak eggs in there, I leave them alone. There were four cute little eggs when I took a peek last week. Will try to get a few photos once hatched.

Hopefully Gidget The Ornery doesn't notice the babies, and the neighborhood feral cats don't either. May need to set out the box trap again; have found evidence of two fresh bird kills this week, one in the front yard, and one in the back. Found the regurgitated remains of a bird in the back yard also.... assuming both of these finds were the same bird, at least I hope so.
