What to do?

Did you write asking Wells Fargo for the title?
If they refused, did you try applying for a title from your state so you can sell it? It sounds to me since they are not claiming the car, that they are giving up ownership to it, so you can assume ownership. Find out from your state what the rules are to apply for title, and go for it!
