Wanna complain? Aside from the "quotes" being unavailable, or the "portfolios" being down frequently - are you getting tired of the excessively lengthy page-loading times, or the "HTTP 101/ Server Too Busy" messages, or the "connection with server cannot be established" messages, or the posts that get lost in cyberspace because the "Submit" button glitched out?"Server too busy" for what? The unexpected traffic? Are the servers undersized, then? No hesitation at the Yahoo sites, or the RB sites, or the Street.com sites or the ClearStation sites. Can we someday hope to have as reliable a technology here, as at those (mostly free) sites?Have been willing to extend the benefit of the doubt when these probs. began (re-)appearing 2 weeks ago. Just figured that with people off work for the holidays, the extra traffic load was slowing things down. Come on, people at TMF - you've had some time now to get this worked out - and everyone's back at work, so it can't be that.TMF, we are your legions of loyal users. Are we not deserving of some explanation, TMF? Like some big banner across the top stating that you know there is a problem, or that new servers are being installed, or that "we're sorry, due to the increased popularity of the Fool, which has taken us totally by surprise and caught us unprepared, we can no longer furnish the kind of web-browsing experience to which you have become accustomed". Any little tidbit would be helpful, TMF. Actually, we may be very understanding, if we only knew what the heck was going on.Anyone wishing to second this desire for info. is welcome to add to thread at "Improve the Fool" http://boards.fool.com/Message.asp?id=1010012002347000&sort=postdate Or, maybe if enough people "recommend" this post, it will get noticed by TMF. And maybe, just maybe - someone from the TMF Techie Dept. will reply. Still hoping.-Mark
Hi Mark,I noticed problems about 3 weeks ago with the page loading times, but, I just figured more people off work spending alot of time here.Yesterday and today have been especially bad...pages taking forever to load and getting alot of connection refused messages. There have been minimal problems on other sites, nothing like here.I am disgusted with TMF boards and don't spend as much time here anymore, except to check Rat's Board. The noise levels on the boards and the problems with the servers have turned me off.Genygirl
GenygirlI agree completely - I too thought maybe too many people were home during the holidays and doing DD on their computers. Some nights I just gave up on TMF, at hours where pages usually load nicely even with my 56K. But it hasn't improved. I'm a relatively new investor, found TMF and then Trenchrat shortly after, and feel very comfortable here. It is frustrating when I can't read without long waits. As a result, I finally got brave enough to log onto Rat's Chat in the evenings so maybe the problems with TMF will end up being a positive thing for me!
Are we not deserving of some explanation, TMF?Yea, the "hamster" message was cute for one day but makes me grit my teeth now!

Latest Update:An apology from TMFQualiT (from "Foolish Quality Assurance"): http://boards.fool.com/Message.asp?id=1010012002349000&sort=postdateAnd, the notice that his message links (apparently on "front page of site")http://www.fool.com/siteperformance.htmDecide for yourselves whether that seems an adequate explanation. Personally would prefer a few more specifics (time frame?; solutions?; expectation of further outages?; priorities for fixes?; remedies from users? ) But, hey, what're a few details between friends. (Maybe we're just too slow to understand the nuances.)Can't imagine what all the hordes of new people must think. HEY, NEW PEOPLE - IT WASN'T ALWAYS THIS BAD! DO YOU THINK WE'D HAVE STUCK AROUND THIS LONG IF IT WAS?Still hoping for a little more to go on, even if it's "way over my head" guys,-Mark
<Or, maybe if enough people "recommend" this post, it will get noticed by TMF. And maybe, just maybe - someone from the TMF Techie Dept. will reply>I really liked your post and did recommend it. Boy, was that a mistake!!! Took forever to reload--- LOLOmRonnie
<<<I am disgusted with TMF boards and don't spend as much time here anymore, except to check Rat's Board.>>> I have become very disappointed in the Fool Boards. At first I thought it was my puter...but I noticed other sites worked just fine. I have tried Yahoo but I find alot of nonsense there.I used to spend alot of time reading many boards...but I have become so frustrated that I check just a few.The Fool has done so much for the individual investor mostly thru these boards...would be a shame to lose valuable information posted here because the boards can't be maintained properly.Filly
Actually, compared to George Gilder's board (which requires a paid subscription) this one is a dream ...I can't wait to reminisce about what the internet used to be like.-helen
Tried to leave a reccomendation, but when I hit the button I got an error message!
DD's subtle hint to TMF. You know what, there are some damn smart people who contribute to TMF so ask some of them for advice on how to fix your server problems. I'm sure we can help some of us do this for a living. My initial hints and tips are to look at some of the followinghttp://www.nortelnetworks.com/products/02/accelar/index.html and/or http://www.nortelnetworks.com/link/accelar_1000and/or http://www.nortelnetworks.com/products/02/accelar/campus.htmland if you don't like Nortel how about...http://www.cacheflow.com/ or http://www.foundrynet.com/or even http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/779/largeent/learn/topologies/internet_extranet.html though to be honest I think most of their designs are st00pid.DDPS curious to see how many people recommend this one.
You go, DD.
Hey DD,there are some damn smart people who contribute to TMFI completely agree. I've learned much more from the TMF boards than I ever did in graduate school.ask some of them for advice on how to fix your server problems.Actually, we have asked some people outside the Fool to give us a hand. For more info on what the problems are and what we are doing to fix them, check out my post on the Improve the Fool board: http://boards.fool.com/Message.asp?id=1010012002352000&sort=postdateMy initial hints and tips are to look at some of the followingI appreciate the links and the info. However, our switches and load balancers are not part of the current problem. It's more of a server load thang. The good news is that we were able to drop the load on the web servers significantly today and are currently working on the SQL box. We should have more information tomorrow morning when our tests are complete.Fool On,Dwight<-><-><-><-><-><-><-><-><-><-><->Dwight J. From Message #5653:>>Or, maybe if enough people "recommend" this post, it will get noticed by TMF. And maybe, just maybe - someone from the TMF Techie Dept. will reply.<<Wowwwww! It worked. Thanks, Dwight.Who'd've thought? Well .... "if you build it, they will come."LOL.
Hey Dwight,Thanks for the updates. I wasn't trying to suggest load balancers per se, its just that thats the only bit of the system that I can comment on. My point was that if we were told you might get soem free advice to help you look in the right directions.I and I sure many others will be curious to learn what the consultants recommend... and what you do to fix things.DD
