(When I retire I plan to live in a state with no or little in the way of state taxes.)

When you figure out what state this is, please let me know! I have lived in two states without state income taxes (Tennessee and Florida) but I always had the feeling that between relatively high sales taxes, high property taxes and higher fees for just about every other government service (auto registration, etc. etc.) I was just about break even with those states where I had lived that had income taxes (PA, MD).

Having spent the last two years as a retiree in Florida we are now considering moving back up north, possible to NC shore area. Between the heat, lack of seasons, overcrowding, traffic jams and rude and/or dishonest tradespeople, we're prepared to pay some income taxes for a more peaceful place to live!!
