I posted this on RealMoney's Columnist Conversation earlier today. - Hewitt

Harder than "when to buy," in my experience.

Susan Byrne, manager of WHG Large Cap Value, tells SmartMoney she sells stocks that drop 20 percent within 45 days of purchase. (Feb. 2009 issue, pg. 66)

Does this approach work?

WHG is just a few years old, but another fund she runs (same methodology I presume) has averaged 3 percent a year over the last decade. Sounds unimpressive until you realize these results beat 93 percent of its peers for the same period.
