When you run your scan, do you have a preference for one broker, or do you run scans with all of your accounts?

Generally, I do all of my scanning using E*Trade's data, because that's what is easiest and fastest for me. I'm using at least a dual monitor setup, and I have pages opened to ET, to Excel, to Yahoo Finance, to FINRA, to Zions Direct, to Interactive Brokers, and to whatever and whomever else I'm using at the moment. I'm using ET to discover what might be available. I'm confirming from other sources that I can't get it cheaper anywhere else and that it is worth buying. Then I decide where to execute based on my cash flows.

I wonder how often there could be a bond available say through ZD, but not available on E*Trade, or OptionsXpress, or IB.

For the most part, bond brokers are merely middlemen. They aren't holding the inventory. They are merely facilitating a transaction between you and an underlying dealer. Therefore, inventory differences will arise if their network of dealers differs, or if they are holding inventory "in-house", which arises in two instances. They are marketing a new issues of which they were allotted a huge chunk. They are selling a position they picked up from a customary at a price so low they knew they could turn it around themselves at a quick, fat profit instead of letting in go through the dealers.
