Approximately 3 years ago I was attacked and raped by college. The man plead guilty and went to jail. I have filed a civil suit and my attorney said, "This could be a million dollar deal."
The suit is for punitive damange, mental anguish, etc. I am a legal drug addict, have been hospitalized 8 times in psyche wards, on disability, been diagnosed PTSD with major depression, recurrent, etc.
The man also lives across the street from college.
Mediations are the first week of April and settlement is April 13th.
My attorney thinks I must pay taxes on the monies but my educated friend says it is unearned income and therefore, I don't have to pay the taxes.
Who is correct?
