I missed the debate altogether. Had a lovely dinner with ex co-workers from the ex Jedi Inc. It was a hoot!! Lots of laughs, lots of steak.

Sadly there's no political journalism anymore. I can't get an accurate commentary on TV as it's all slanted, both Right and Left but for a few exceptions.

What did y'all think? Who won?

Any Luntz stuff on FOX?

Any commentary from Pat Buchanan or Pat Caddell?

Thanks, Jedi

Lutz panel -- Obama won, slight edge

Romney appeared more PResidential, except for 1 hard core Obama backer (of course panel was undecided) all the comments leaned Romney. Panel almost solely concerned about economy and thought Romney better choice-clearly -- and that Romney seemed Presidential and knew what was going on

That's about that

Buchanon -- Romney won that debate, he had a much better feeling for China, I do not know what he will do but he sounded kinda like me on the trade issues -- we have to get Americans back to work.....

Caddell -- Not going to male hardcore Republicans happy. Did not dish hard comebacks, played defense and played it well, looked Presidential and did all he had to do without falling into any of the many traps that had obviously been developed by the President's rhetoric

Unless Romney campaign staff are idiots(always a possibility) Romney was a clear winner.

I say that because as you watched the debate, you knew Romney accomplished everything he wanted to do, and likely a little more -- he could not have predicted Obama coming up so small and kind of petty in his snarky comments. Remember the Obama campaign has switched off nasty in their ads because it is not working -- Obama ran against his own campaign themes -- not a good thing

Romney laid out a clear vision of where he wants the country positioned and why. He did it from a birds-eye view. He did it with sketching a proud and proper America. He 'noticed' a lot of foreign policy mistakes and was not nasty about pointing them out

This was a much better performance than Romney was credited with IMO. Unfortunately, you had to watch the whole thing to get it IMO, and I do not know how many folks will do that.

I think that tactically Obama won. The Luntz panel agreed that "the president won on points."

However, strategically I think Romney won. The Luntz panel felt that once again "Romney won on the economy." Most of the panel felt that the economy was the deciding factor. I would further add that Romney looked and acted presidential and that he was knowledgeable and confident in foreign policy. Obama often acted petty. Interestingly, Obama often looked petty when Romney was talking too.

I don't think this debate will affect the momentum much but the small affect it does have will favor Romney. Look for Ohio to tip towards Romney over the next week.

I think Obama won in a HS debate, although it would depend upon how well acquainted the debate judges knew the topic, Obama did best while assigning false assumption of Romney's position and past.

Tactically? Obama tried to drag the debate to a certain place repeatedly, Romney said no thanks. Tactically, this was a disaster for Obama IMO, he wanted a certain debate and did not get it.

Obama got better talking points. No doubt, had lots of zingers that Romney did not really open himself to, that Obama used anyway.

This did not work well for Obama IMO

We won, we didn't watch, lol! Meh, I didn't watch anything last night really. My son had a homework assignment for gym class: watch five minutes of the football game. We turned it on, watched Chicago march down the field and score then turned it off. He did learn an important lesson about being a Lion's fan: it brings lots of pain and misery.

I'm glad San Fran won their series, didn't want to see the Cards again in the World Series. Now I just hope the Tigers wipe the floor with the Giants!

Caddell -- Not going to male hardcore Republicans happy.

I'm pretty sure Romney already has the support of nearly 100% of the hardcore Republicans who will be voting, so his job wasn't to go out there and fire them up. No hardcore Republican will be voting for 0bama.

So his job was to attract as many independents as possible. Sounds like he may have done just that.

I watched the start and the finish.

Checked a few times in between but it was all talking points. Nothing new.

Obama 'talked down' to Romney a few times. That 'academic' lecturer showing his petulant irritated side.........

Obama didn't score big...most folks probably tuned out.....long before the middle....

Pawn Stars had re runs....there were a few movies on as well...plus all the comedy re runs were going full tilt, plus there was a baseball playoff game going on.....

I suspect the audience was way down

I voted yesterday so it didn't even matter to me.

Looks like early voting in TX turnout strong in Romney areas and weak in Obama areas.

Good!

We're down to the wire, and hoping you're right.

DH has a good friend in Pennsylvania. In an email, the friend said that a majority of people he's spoken to have said they're voting for Romney.

I'm holding my breath till the last vote is reported. Romney's going to have to win by a very wide, unquestionable margin if we're going to be set free from Obama's grip.

Well what we do know is Obama has not abandoned his plans to make high earners pay a "bit" more. Translation, the middle class private sector non-union wage slaves like myself who are not in the 1% but who make a decent salary will get hammered if Chairman Obama and his band of Democrat-Socialists get to run the government. There are simply not enough rich people who will stick around to get fleeced so the Dems will have to come after we middle class wage slaves.

IMO, Romney acted like he had the lead in the 4th quarter and was playing prevent defense.

Obama had to 'score big' but came off looking like someone too desperate to make up 24 points in the race....

Obama had his one line zingers......but Romney put up good defense....and kept bringing up the failed Obama economy......

Tactically, Obama 'won'.....but he likely turned off some voters with his 'talking down', sarcasm, and less than stellar rhetoric.

Where were the soaring phrases and visions that excited so many in 2008? Was it all a fluke? People 'wishing' for a savior and so in love with the image of 'hopey changey' they were blind back then to the reality of someone with no experience, anti-business, anti-capitalist viewpoint??

Two weeks to election......

The people will decide..who 'won'......on all the important issues.

I didn't watch the debate, too glued to the baseball game. I did watch the highlights this AM.

One response I wish Romney would have made when Obama started lecturing him about aircraft carriers and our need to build them, I wish Mitt would have said, we are building plenty of aircraft carriers, for the Chinese. Our interest payments on the bonds they hold pay for X number of carriers a year.

Economy, foreign policy, and defense all in one stone cast.

Thanks everyone for the great updates.

Buchanan, Luntz and Cadell are basically the only ones I listen too anymore.

LOL on the trade issue.

Romney and Obama BOTH sounds like yours truly these days.

Perhaps in the coming decade, their flocks in both parties will too.
