Why is Texas allowed to use one box, blatant effort to steal an election?

The BBC News had a piece on Texas tonight. Houston has drive through polling places, so people don't have to be an a crowded, enclosed room. The Republican Gov is trying to get them shut down, just as he decreed there would only be one place per county where you could turn in absentee ballots. Both vectors of vote suppression: make people jump through a lot of hoops, and some will give up on voting.

There was a piece a couple weeks ago about why is it that, in recent years, there has been a narrative spread around the US about how the country is a Republic, not a Democracy. Technically, correct, but counter to how the US has always been described. Thing is, this narrative is being circulated exclusively by Republicans. The suspicion is that this "Republic, not a Democracy" narrative is tied to the vote suppression strategies so that the "Republic" will only have a portion of the population allowed to vote, rather than the wide right to vote that the US has had.
