Yeah. The funny thing, in case you hadn't noticed, is that the ice is sitting on top of a continent. So it's not "floating" at the moment, it's not in the water.

If you would like to try an experiment yourself, fill a glass with water.

Now take ice cubes from the tray (this would be analogus to taking the ice off the top of the land) and put it in the glass. It floats! See the water level rise? Do it again. Do it again.

Now you have ice "floating" in the water, but you also have water all over your counter. Now clean it up.

Now think long and hard about taking ice which is not in the water and adding it to the water. The water level goes up.

Tough concept, I realize.

Now explain how submarines pass thru a land mass.
