Yes, I understand what you are saying and it makes sense. What I realized this morning, is that for some people there is a lost tax, the taxes paid into FICA. For those that pass the FICA limit it doesn't really matter, but for those that don't they do pay a tax (6.2%) on the funds directed to 401k. If subsequently the funds are lost, so is the tax. At least so it would seem.
