Yes, you invest in a Roth IRA/401K because the law says you don't get a deduction now because you won't pay income tax on the money earned when you retire. I'd consider that a promise.

Exactly, and I bought a house based on the fact that the person who buts it from me will get a mortgage deduction. Making the price I was willing to pay higher

People voted for politicians over decades based on 65 being retirement age

There was no contract so no promise, just a we intend.

Time for folks to understand that. You want some sacred thing in your mind to be sacrosanct yet others assumptions? Well they should have known better.
