You can get a pretty idea of your refund before filing by using tools like Quicken. I think has a tax estimating tool.

It's a bad idea to file before you have all the paperwork in, especially W-2's, because you will have to file an ammended return to correct it.

For the childcare you can get a non-refundable credit, but there can be alot of things that can affect it. For example, if you can lower your taxable income to -$0.00 with exemptions and deductions, the child care credit does not matter, because it only offsets tax.

Thanks, but I don't plan on doing it without my info, I'm just upset that I have to WAIT. I can estimate it by hand (my quicken bit the dust, but I will buy Turbo Tax as soon as I have all my info!) but I can't even do that until I have all the information.

I'm not sure what you mean by lowering my taxable income to 0.00 (?), but I know I'll have to file for the dependent care credit, I always do, and I've made more (but still under the cap) this year.
