You did the right thing in informing the principal. Not only can he (and teachers) keep tabs on her and give her a little extra TLC during this stressful time, but if it's ever needed in the future they can also put out an alert to staff about any possible restraining orders.

My sister left an abusive relationship 15 years ago, and I'm so proud of her...and of you!
