You don't say exactly what it is you do not like about your job. Generalizations about a "rat race" are not terribly helpful.

I never thought that my job was at all high stress. Many of my co-workers who were in similar positions to mine did believe that they had stressful jobs. In some cases, their performance suffered, as well as their personal relationships.

Maybe I was just to dumb to see what was going on. If so, I was the better for it.

In your case, the job may be a truly terrible job. Or it may be something you can cope with if you change your attitude. There is nothing in your post, however, that is at all specific. You might change careers and find yourself unhappy in your new job.

Anyway, you need to do a careful analysis of the problem, figure out the things that are making you unhappy, and see how changing your job would make your life different.
