Your 401k seems to have some great choices and I like your thinking. Here's what I would recommend: Start with those 4 funds and let your account build to a decent number (like $50,000). That should take you a few years. In the meantime, read as much as you can. Investing is as much about training your gut as about training your mind. Once you have a sizable account, you can get into detailed analysis.
