Your idea of going to another tire shop sounds good, though. ........

Find a tire shop that deals with your brand of tire, it may be that the Subie shop doesn't want or know how to deal with the tire maker.
If there is any adjustment available you might have a better chance going through an "authorized dealer" fot that brand of tire.
Or they may have a used tire that will fit, that could at least save you from replacing the other three tires ?
