I would agree with you if the situations are not government funded. If I am already working a certain portion of my life to pay for these items, why should I have to pay again? What are the ethics in that?

Many museums are tax exempt for real estate taxes.....'charitable' organizations...

Thus, they still require ciy services.... fire protection, police protection.... zoning, functioning city gov't, crowd control, homeland security, parking enforcement, etc.

Many museums respond by offering the community a 'free day' to offset the fact that they ARE using community resources.

You already support every church - you pay 20% more in taxes because they pay none for their land, yet demand city services from water, sewer, police protection, fire protection, parking enforcement, etc. They get a free ride. If that land were put to constructive business use, it would generate a huge tax base. Thus, it is 'lost income' that you and I get to make up. ANd we haven't included sales tax, plus all the 'charitable deductions' citizens take on their taxes, meaning others have to pay more to collect the same money which it takes to run the gov't, both when there is local/state income tax,and federally.
